Striking Interview For ‘Water The Mind” program, Jul 2012

Of more than 200 applicants who want to become volunteers for Education Summer Camp 2012, Water the Mind of Brighter Vietnam, 40 best candidates have soaked in the inspired and friendly atmosphere for the second selection round. Also, this air is blended with some tough ingredients because the organization committee would choose only 10 candidates who are more suitable and more superb to volunteer with Brighter Vietnam. Through four hours worked actively with six “tests”, the “warm hearts” and “green mind” had lots of opportunities to express their abilities and teamwork spirit. All of the volunteers have left a good impression in each other and to the Organization Committee. Their arguments about the “solution” to the practical problems associated with WATER, the centre point of the “WATER THE MIND”summer camp, presented many excellent ideas for upcoming programs of Brighter Vietnam on the themes of WATER and ENVIRONMENT for life.

The judges include Mrs. Le Thi Hoang Anh, Vice General Secretary of Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations, Mrs. Luu Nguyen Thu Ha, Deputy Director of UNESCO Centre for International Education and Director of Brighter Vietnam, and many program staff of Brighter Vietnam.  From the first moment, the air was heated by the vibrant dance, “Follow the leader”, performed by members of organization committee and volunteers. All candidate felt that they were filled full of energy to be ready for the next tests.

The applicants were divided into 4 groups to participate in the group tests. They were extremely excited in finding ideas to build “A dream house of volunteers”. They were also eager to help each other increase knowledge and improve English when sharing the comments about clip “Green school”, which told a story of dreamt school in Bali, Indonesia. Additionally, volunteers had great debates on proposing solutions for water resources problems in Vietnam. In the individual written examination, they came up with attractive ideas for summer camp activities, expressed their point of views of social issues, and suggested to the organization committee in order to make Brighter Vietnam become more popular.

Sharing the contents of the Summer Camp, Lan Nhi, Earlham University said, “WATER is vital for life, MIND is the seed of each person. Both are important. I find it very meaningful. We begin with the awareness to change behaviors”. Ha Phuong, University of Foreign Languages added, “MIND, likes a tree having roots and leaves, cannot grow without the essential nutrient, it is WATER. By extension, it is necessary to use water effectively to foster ourselves”.

The common sense of the candidates about the interview was “It’s cool and fun” – interestingly, Ha Phuong said, “When receiving notice of the interview schedule, I imagined I would meet people who are serious and likely to put questions about critical environmental problems. However, as soon as the program started, I immediately felt the friendly and pleasant atmosphere, which helped me be comfortable to express myself as well as share and discuss with other candidates.” Thanh Hang, coming from Phu Tho Province, said: “That was so great interview program. Everyone got opportunity to express themselves in not only friendly and open atmosphere, but also effective and accurate spirit. I think that organization committee has actually selected a lot of good candidates.”

Another candidate shared, “I’ve just come back from my study at faraway place, and did not know anyone among the candidates, but even in the first section, everyone could get close together. I did have many new wonderful friends!”

Manh Cuong could not hide his excitement when he knew there is such a significant and interesting program implemented in his hometown, “participating in the program, my dreams will come true”- said Cuong.

The desire for knowledge and further contribution to the protection of water resources of the young people has made organizers extremely impressed. “The solutions which you offered are really excellent. I promise, in the near future, Brighter Vietnam Program will attempt to develop many more similar activities for the youths”- Ms. Luu Nguyen Thu Ha shared with candidates in an activity called “Together We find solutions”.

List of candidates selected will be announced within the first week of July. Soon, the volunteers will be learning about the necessary knowledge to be used in the work camp and, in collaboration with organization committee, preparing the camp activities in details as well as value-added activities for international and Vietnamese volunteers.

Will you go to see beach and mountain or will you like to discover the traditional culture and to meet our brilliant school students to help young generation to use wisely clean water and protect water resources.

Come participate our program “WATER THE MIND” (23-29^th July 2012) and enjoy your meaningful summer in beautiful homeland Phu Tho, Vietnam.

Objectives

Water the Mind is an intensive program designed to equip high school students in Phu Tho Province knowledge about water and methods to use water wisely. Through specific topics of water resources, students will understand thoroughly that water plays a very important role in life, but water sources are being contaminated and depleted. The polluted water has caused a number of diseases and a “cancer village” in Phu Tho is the most obvious illustration for this matter.

In the future, the students may face the threat from a lack of clean water because shortage of water has been happening in many places in Vietnam and around the world. However, these students are able to contribute their efforts to change that situation. The lessons in Water the Mind will help them be aware of their role, encourage them to recognize their behavior, habits of water use and adjust inappropriate ones. The students will practice and encourage their families and communities to use water effectively and protect precious clean water resources. As a consequence, the program does not only aim to raise awareness of students about water use but also has the power to spread the matter in the community.

Benefits of the program

• The future owners of the country will be aware of the concept of and need for water conservation. They will know and apply efficient solutions to look after this valuable resource. Besides, they can participate in an interesting summer program with a number of opportunities to learn, to find out the water manufacturing process and to consult the experience of local and overseas volunteers on these issues.
• The children will learn simple ways to treat water in the event of natural disasters such as floods that cause water pollution.
• Students will receive English training, organization skills, presentation skills training and learn how to develop their potentials.
• They also have opportunity to learn firsthand about the differences of culture and education with foreign volunteers.

2. Water conservation is to keep clean water for yourselves, your families, your communities and the future generations.

Mục đích

“Tưới nước tâm hồn” là một chương trình chuyên sâu có mục đích đầu tiên là trang bị cho học sinh trung học tại Phú Thọ những kiến thức cơ bản về nước sạch và cách sử dụng nước một cách hiệu quả, tiết kiệm. Thông qua các chủ đề cụ thể về tài nguyên nước, các em học sinh sẽ hiểu một cách sâu sắc rằng nước đóng vai trò rất quan trọng trong cuộc sống, nhưng nguồn nước đang bị ô nhiễm và cạn kiệt dần. Bài học rõ ràng nhất là ngôi làng “ung thư” do không có nước sạch và nguồn nước bị ô nhiễm nặng ở ngay tỉnh Phú Thọ. Trong tương lai, chính các em có thể sẽ phải đối mặt với nguy cơ thiếu nước sạch, một điều đã, đang xảy ra ở nhiều nơi tại Việt Nam và trên thế giới. Tuy nhiên, chính các em cũng là người có thể đóng góp sức mình để thay đổi điều đó. Những bài học trong chương trình “Tưới nước tâm hồn” sẽ giáo dục các em ý thức được vai trò của mình, khuyến khích các em nhận thức rõ hơn về hành vi, thói quen sử dụng nước của mình và điều chỉnh những hành vi, thói quen sử dụng nước chưa phù hợp. Bằng các hành động thực tế, các em học sinh sẽ THỰC HÀNH, KHUYẾN KHÍCH gia đình và cộng đồng của mình cùng chung tay sử dụng nước tiết kiệm và bảo vệ nguồn nước quý giá. Như vậy, chương trình không chỉ hướng tới các em học sinh mà còn có sức mạnh lan tỏa trong cộng đồng.

Lợi ích của chương trình:

• Ngoài việc giúp cho những chủ nhân tương lai của đất nước có nhận thức đầy đủ về tài nguyên nước và đóng góp thiết thực vào việc sử dụng nước, chương trình còn là một khóa học hè đầy bổ ích khi các em có cơ hội học tập, tìm hiểu thực tế quy trình sản xuất nước và tham khảo kinh nghiệm của các tình nguyện viên trong nước và ngoài nước về vấn đề này.
• Các em cũng học được những cách đơn giản để xử lý nước trong trường hợp có thiên tai, lũ lụt khiến nguồn nước bị ô nhiễm.
• Các em học sinh được rèn luyện thêm về tiếng Anh, tiếp thu các kỹ năng tổ chức, thực hiện chương trình, cách thuyết trình và phát huy hơn nữa những tiềm năng của mình.
• Các em cũng có điều kiện để tìm hiểu về những khác biệt văn hóa, giáo dục với các tình nguyện viên nước ngoài.

Kết quả hướng tới:

Các em học sinh sẽ có nhận thức rõ ràng là:

1. Nước sạch không tự nhiên chảy vào nhà.

2. Tiết kiệm nước nước sạch là giữ nước cho bản thân, gia đình, cộng đồng và các thế hệ sau.

3. Lãng phí nước hôm nay, bệnh tật đến ngày mai.

4. Nước bẩn cần phải xử lý trước khi dùng

5. Bảo vệ nguồn nước là không phá rừng

Các em học sinh sẽ có hành động là:

1. Sử dụng nước tiết kiệm, hiệu quả
2. Thực hành, khuyến khích, hướng dẫn người khác cùng tiết kiệm nước
3. Không có hành động gây lãng phí nước hoặc ô nhiễm nước
4. Xử lý nước bẩn trước khi dùng
5. Bảo vệ nguồn nước, giữ gìn rừng và trồng rừng

BRIGHTER VIETNAM SUMMER CAMP 2012 “Homeland Tales”

1, Mục đích:

 Việt Nam đang thực hiện những bước chuyển mình mạnh mẽ, phát triển và hội nhập với thế giới.  Thông qua những sự kiện chính trị, kinh tế, xã hội, quốc phòng, an ninh, đối nội, đối ngoại, Việt Nam ngày càng nhận được sự quan tâm của bạn bè quốc tế.  Chính vì thế học tiếng Anh đang rất được coi trọng và ngày càng phổ biến tại Việt Nam, đặc biệt ở những thành phố lớn như Hà Nội và Hồ Chí Minh.

Ở các tỉnh thành, học tiếng Anh được Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo đưa vào chương trình chính khóa nhưng điều kiện giao tiếp với người nước ngoài bị hạn chế, và đó là thiệt thòi rất lớn của các em học sinh cũng như thầy cô giảng dạy ngoại ngữ. Chương trình Giao lưu – bổ trợ tiếng Anh với chủ đề “Hè về Đất Tổ” nằm trong chuỗi hoạt động của dự án tình nguyện Brighter Vietnam sẽ giúpcho học sinh và giáo viên các trường cấp 3 trên địa bàn thành phố Việt Trì có cơ hội  trau dồi vốn tiếng Anh của mình. Chương trình cam kết sẽ mang lại cho các em học sinh những trải nghiệm thú vị trong việc học tiếng Anh cũng như phát huy những khả năng vốn có của các em trong học tập và cuộc sống.

PROGRAM “WATER THE MIND” 2012

 1. Objectives: This is a week school program which focuses on Water theme. The program is designed to raise the awareness of students and teachers in many provinces in Viet Nam to the concept of and need for water conservation, and at the same time, to teach students to use water wisely through a wide range of attractive activities. Because water is considered plentiful in Viet Nam, it is over-exploited and its shortage is becoming common. In many provinces in Viet Nam, people do not have enough clean water or cannot access to clean water for living. Therefore, the participation of international volunteers whose country is lacking in water but utilizes it effectively is significant.

 

The exchange will bring Vietnamese students and volunteers together to share knowledge, experience and ideas of water conservation. Vietnamese students also have precious opportunities to learn firsthand about English, soft skills, foreign education and culture. Furthermore, the program calls for the contribution of Vietnamese students to community issues, especially about WATER and WATER PROTECTION. The volunteers will understand more about Vietnam, its people, diverse cultures and enjoy beautiful sightseeings. More importantly, they help Vietnamese students to be more conscious of water issues and to find the efficient solutions to look after this valuable resource.

Any support and contribution of organizations, businesses and individuals would be greatly appreciated and always give this program the additional strength and broader impact.

Description:

Vietnamoffers an opportunity to see a country of traditional charm and spectacular sceneries of nature being well-known with both long coastal line in the East and mountainous areas in the West.Vietnamowns an ancient and heroic history rooted since 2879 BC.

The Camp shall be organized in Viet Tri, a nice city located on the confluence of three big rivers, Red River, Lo River and Da River. Not far from Hanoi (85km), this city holds a special place in Vietnam’s heart because it is considered as the birthplace of the Vietnamese people. Every year, people make a pilgrimage to Hung Temple to honor their ancestry and to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the legendary relics and tales, and Xoan singing. In this area, they feel to be brought closer together as if they were siblings in the same family.

The English Summer Camp 2012 “Homeland Tales” will be a chance for international students to discover Vietnam in general and Viet Tri in particular and obtain experiences through community involvement. International students will be supported to address the needs of their career, to improve life skills and professional development. The program adds another dimension to the experience abroad through daily exposure and interactions, resulting in a greater understanding of the language, culture and community of the host country

Brighter Vietnam was launched officially in 2008 by UNESCO Centre for International Education, who is a non-profit organization under Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations.
